In 1991, the latest generation of the S-Class was presented at the Geneva Motor Show, with a design based on traditional Mercedes-Benz styling elements. As with the SL models of the 129 series, the radiator grille of the new S-Class was also given a new stylistic interpretation. In 1994, the S-Class saloons were subtly redesigned, resulting in a lighter and more dynamic appearance. A key factor was the redesign of the rear end, with the boot lid joints being rounded off. The 6.0-litre V12 M 120 engine was a new design with 300 kW (408 hp) and was regarded as the most powerful Mercedes-Benz passenger car engine. In 1995, the revisions concentrated on technical details such as the 5-speed automatic transmission and the optimisation of the engines to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. By September 1998, 406,532 saloons of the 140 model series had been produced.

The miniature model of the S-Class, manufactured on a scale of 1:18, consists of 120 individual parts and is painted in an authentic colour. It features a faithful representation of the interior, flocked interior and boot floors and six moving parts (doors, bonnet, tailgate). The model is supplied in Mercedes-Benz Classic packaging with a glove and screwdriver to prevent fingerprints.
